April 2012 Movers & Shakers
a review: In this sci-fi thriller for young adults, 17-year-old Janelle is convinced that her classmate Ben brought her back to life from a fatal car accident. She snoops through her dad's FBI files and discovers a strange series of murders involving radiation burns and learns that a clock is ticking down—she has only 23 days, ten hours to find the truth. Suz calls it "incredibly thrilling and highly intelligent....Norris fills her novel full of suspense and the right amount of daring adventure."
A review:A faith healing of an autistic child by a snake-handling preacher ends in tragedy: The boy dies in front of his little brother. The resulting investigation stirs up small-town secrets in this Southern gothic tale. Goodreads Author Lydia Netzer calls it a "quiet whirlpool of a novel that will pull you under and hold you fast...so deftly constructed you'll forget you're reading a book and not just listening to the characters talk."
a review:Destitute and facing a bleak choice, single father Travis Brown leaves his four-year-old daughter with a coffee shop waitress, a woman he barely knows, so he can work an illegal job he hopes will secure their future. The gig inevitably goes wrong, placing all three in danger.Cheryl says the book highlights "a parent's unconditional love" and calls it "a 'transport' read, where I was so engrossed that I actually felt I was part of the story."
a thought on Harry Potter books?
I want to start 2012 reading Harry Potter because it’s the first year without it. I admit, I’m a Potterhead or whatever you call it. I got this book last December 2010 and being a bookworm, I’m finished with it in a short period of time.
I still remember, I was patiently waiting for my Hogwarts Acceptance letter even though my 11th birthday has passed by. It was silly but who’ll refuse to entertain the thought of attending a school for witches and wizards?
This book is a spectacular little romp with funny, courageous, and endearing characters that you can’t help but love. Hermione, the young scholar who starts out prim and up-tight but soon becomes a true friend; Ron, the boy who has little money but who has an abundance of family and loyalty to his friends to make up for it; and then there’s Harry, the boy who starts out sleeping in a closet and ends up being a hero. Harry is kind to those that deserve it, fearless when it counts the most, and wonderfully intelligent. So what’s not to love?
I don’t get it why some people say Harry Potter is evil. I mean, it does encourage me to become a witch. But we all know it’s not going to happen. In my imagination… maybe. But trust me, there is nothing wrong with Harry Potter. None at all.
All in all, J.K. Rowling has the talent.
I don’t want to give away too much. Read it for yourself, it’s one of my favorite books ever.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
PS: Those who think the topic of Harry Potter or Twilight is worth arguing over, are and is utterly stupid. I mean, they both have different concept, for Pete’s sake
